Bundling proxies with your bot licence: three models that work
2026-10-18 · Bazyl

If you sell a bot, there are three ways to put proxies next to the licence: include gigabytes in the seat, send buyers to us for a commission, or sell packs from your own pool at your own price. They differ in who holds the inventory and who answers the support ticket. After this post you can pick one and know the first call to make.
The mistake is mixing the affiliate model with either of the others. Then you hold inventory for some customers and earn commission on others, with two price lists and two support stories. The first and third models share one rail and combine fine; the second stands alone.
Model 1: gigabytes in the seat
Proxies included in the licence means you are a partner, with a wholesale pool and a customer record in our system for every licence you sell. The partner API is the second of the two APIs on the bot developers page. The licence renews, your webhook fires, and you move that cycle's gigabytes from your pool to that customer:
# Licence 8841 renewed: move this cycle's 20 GB from your pool to that customer.
# The invoice id is the Idempotency-Key, so a webhook that fires twice pays once.
curl -s -X POST "https://api.basilproxies.com/api/reseller/v1/customers/$CUSTOMER_ID/balance/add" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $BASIL_PARTNER_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "Idempotency-Key: inv-8841-2026-10" \
-d '{"amountGb": 20, "product": "residential2"}'
A retry with the same key returns the first call's result instead of paying out twice. Always top up the same customer; never create a new one per renewal. What a pool's first week looks like, buy, allocate, reclaim, is in the first 100 GB post.
When the licence lapses, take the gigabytes back. balance/remove with amountMb set
to "all" moves whatever is left to your pool, and suspend freezes the customer and
reclaims every GB in one call. Pool gigabytes never expire, so a reclaimed 12 GB is sold
again next month, not written off.
The money: wholesale from $0.50 per GB
with the exact band on request, a first order of 100 GB and any size after, no monthly fee, no branding fee. A seat that includes 20 GB a month carries $10 of proxy cost at the entry band. Price the seat with that number inside it and the proxies stop being a line your customer compares.
Creating the customer is one call. POST /customers with initialGb and
"product": "residential2" creates them, funds them from your pool and returns working
credentials, with warmupSeconds: 60 because a fresh string can answer 407 for about a
minute. If the pool can't cover it you get 409 INSUFFICIENT_POOL and no customer is
created. Your customers get no Basil dashboard, login or email; they get a string from
your bot.
One thing we also sell and you don't need: a hosted white-label mode, our dashboard on your domain with your Stripe, set up by hand for each partner. A bot that already has its own dashboard wants the API mode above.
Model 2: the affiliate link
Send buyers to us and take a commission. You get a referral link, or you register one personal invite link to our Discord server, and a member who joins through it and then signs up is attributed to you, same as a tracked link. The commission is 10% of the referred customer's first month, computed on the net amount paid after any discount.
A referred customer who buys 50 GB pay as you go at €1.40 per GB pays €70, and your commission is €7. Payouts go by SEPA bank transfer once the balance reaches €50, and the dashboard for all of it is pr.basilproxies.com.
What you don't get is inventory, and the support load that comes with it. They are our customers at our prices, and we answer their tickets. What you also don't get is a wholesale price or your own branding. Their proxies are ours and they know it. For a bot whose users ask "which proxies" and nothing more, that is the whole job, done in an afternoon.
Model 3: packs from your pool at your price
The third model is the partner rail again, with the gigabytes sold separately from the
licence. Your customer buys a 10 GB pack from you, your checkout fires, and the same
balance/add call above moves 10 GB to their customer record. The seat stays proxy-free
and the packs carry the margin.
Your ceiling is our own pay-as-you-go price, because anyone can read it. In US dollars, as of 1 October 2026:
- 5 to 14 GB: $3.60 per GB
- 50 to 99 GB: $1.68 per GB
- 500 to 999 GB: $1.08 per GB
Your floor is the wholesale band, from $0.50. A 10 GB pack at $2.50 per GB is $25 in, $5 out at the entry band, and 30% under what the same buyer pays us. The full ladder and where that margin leaks are in the margin math post; the short version is that our subscriptions cost less per gigabyte than pay as you go, so a subscriber compares you against a lower line.
Every move shows in your ledger as a row: SALE when you buy, ALLOCATE to a customer, RECLAIM back from one, ADJUST for a correction, each one read in the ledger post. A customer who ran past their allocation costs you nothing extra; the next top-up writes the overrun off first and then adds its full amount, as a pair of rows that nets to zero.
Which one
Three questions settle it.
- Do you want to hold inventory at all? If not, model 2. Nothing else is as light.
- Does the proxy cost need to disappear inside the seat price? Model 1. The customer never sees a per-GB number.
- Will customers buy more than a seat can reasonably include? Model 3, on its own or on top of model 1, because both run on the same partner key and the same customer record.
A bot with 200 seats that each include 20 GB moves 4,000 GB a month through model 1 and sells whatever the heavy users want on model 3, with one key and one ledger.
The first call
For models 1 and 3, apply on the partners page. Onboarding is same-day:
your partner account, your first key and your first sale are three actions on our side.
Wholesale is paid by bank transfer by default, a card payment link is possible, every
sale is invoiced, and the first 100 GB land in the pool when the sale is recorded. Then
POST /customers for your first licence and the top-up curl above on every renewal.
For model 2 the first call is a link, not an API. The affiliate dashboard at pr.basilproxies.com holds your link and your stats; put the link where your users ask.
Pick the model, then apply on the partners page and say which one, so the wholesale quote that comes back is for the right volume.
Common questions
- Can I include proxies in my bot's subscription price?
- Yes, as a partner. One customer in our system per licence, funded each billing cycle with balance/add, reclaimed with balance/remove or suspend when the licence lapses. Wholesale from $0.50 per GB, first order 100 GB, no monthly or branding fee.
- What does the affiliate program pay?
- 10% of a referred customer's first month, computed on the net amount paid after any discount. Payouts go by SEPA bank transfer from €50, and the affiliate dashboard is pr.basilproxies.com.
- Do pool gigabytes expire?
- No. Pool gigabytes never expire, and whatever a customer leaves unused moves back to the pool with balance/remove.
- Can my customers tell the proxies come from Basil?
- As a partner, your customers get no Basil dashboard, login or email. Their credentials point at our gateways, whose authentication challenge names no supplier, and you can put your own hostname in front with a CNAME.
